Binary Lambda Calculus and Combinatory Logic

چکیده
In the first part, we introduce binary representations of both lambda calculus and combinatory logic terms, and demonstrate their simplicity by providing very compact parser-interpreters for these binary languages. Along the way we also present new results on list representations, bracket abstraction, and fixpoint combinators. In the second part we review Algorithmic Information Theory, for which these interpreters provide a convenient vehicle. We demonstrate this with several concrete upper bounds on program-size complexity.

Counting Terms in the Binary Lambda Calculus
In a paper entitled Binary lambda calculus and combinatory logic, John Tromp presents a simple way of encoding lambda calculus terms as binary sequences. In what follows, we study the numbers of binary strings of a given size that represent lambda terms and derive results from their generating functions, especially that the number of terms of size n grows roughly like 1.963447954n.

متن کاملExtensional Models of Untyped Lambda-mu Calculus
This paper proposes new mathematical models of the untyped Lambda-mu calculus. One is called the stream model, which is an extension of the lambda model, in which each term is interpreted as a function from streams to individual data. The other is called the stream combinatory algebra, which is an extension of the combinatory algebra, and it is proved that the extensional equality of the Lambda...
متن کاملCompleteness of two systems of illative combinatory logic for first-order propositional and predicate calculus
Illative combinatory logic consists of the theory of combinators or lambda calculus extended by extra constants (and corresponding axioms and rules) intended to capture inference. The paper considers 4 systems of illative combinatory logic that are sound for first-order propositional and predicate calculus.
متن کاملHigher-Order Uni cation via Combinators
We present an algorithm for uniication in the simply typed lambda calculus which enumerates complete sets of uniiers using a nitely branching search space. In fact, the types of terms may contain type-variables, so that a solution may involve type-substitution as well as term-substitution. the problem is rst translated into the problem of uniication with respect to extensional equality in combi...
